2020

Product Details

The 2020 Gaja Barbaresco offers delightful notes of strawberry, red fruit, and cherry. On the palate, the tannins are well-integrated, softer than the 2019 vintage, and bring a gentle, graceful touch. You’ll find hints of blackberry, orange, and floral tones, leading to a delicate and full-bodied finish. These wines stand out for their precise and complex fruit flavors, with clean and elegant aromas. While they're enjoyable now, they also have the aging potential to develop even more depth over time, thanks to the strong presence of fruit.

High atop a steep hill in the Langhe region lies the charming village of Barbaresco, where the renowned GAJA winery was born. This winery's journey began over 150 years ago with a goal to create wines that not only taste incredible but also embody the essence of the land and the culture behind them. It all started when Giovanni Gaja opened a small restaurant in Barbaresco, crafting wines to pair perfectly with his dishes. In 1859, he founded the GAJA Winery, one of the first to bottle and sell wines from Piedmont beyond the local region.

Over the years, each generation has added its own touch to the winery's legacy, with Angelo Gaja taking the reins in 1961. Angelo, driven by a passion for innovation and quality, introduced new techniques like using French oak barrels and pioneered single-vineyard wines. He also elevated Piedmont's native Nebbiolo grape to world-class status.

Today, Angelo's vision is carried forward by the fifth generation—his daughters Gaia and Rossana, and his son Giovanni. Together, they continue to push the boundaries, crafting wines exclusively from their own estate vineyards. With 250 acres in the Barbaresco and Barolo districts, as well as estates in Tuscany, GAJA wines capture the true heart and soul of their origins, delivering a taste that’s as timeless as it is irresistible.
