This wine is unique, with enchanting floral and red fruit aromas and a silky yet firm structure that carries flavors of kirsch, cherry preserve, and violets. It finishes with a burst of incense, rooibos tea, and iron accents, making you pause before taking another sip.
This wine comes from a small vineyard in Pignan, planted in 1942, which was the beginning of the Saouma's journey in the Rhône region. The old vines produce very small amounts of grapes. The whole grape clusters using natural yeasts, then move the wine, including the lees, into 500-liter barrels where it sits untouched for 36 months. It's bottled with very little added sulfur as many wines do within the Chateauneuf du Pape region.
